OK Sunday was my 24th Wedding Anniversary so I chose to celebrate with my loving wife and sons instead of get the comic finished. Mea culpa.

Alright this page concludes my first Nigel story arc. Wow, I have learned so much since first drawing the earlier pages that were part of a class assignment and deciding to just go for broke on this venture. I am going to take a week or perhaps two off to finish getting book II scripted and do some other projects before launching into the first long story arc of Nigel, Lucy, Malfelix, and company. I appreciate all the comments and feedback I have gotten on the comic and believe me there is much more to come. All I can say is thank you for being along on the journey.

This last page is a real testament to how much you have improved. Don't get me wrong, I've always been impressed, but darn you are a fast learner.

Best page yet, Kim! Killer ink work! 0o0

And what's this? Has Jonah Hex joined the KKK?!!

(And Manga in those days?)

Oh noes, that is an ominous looking hat and a somehow disturbing minion.

Hmmm...where to begin,

Wyler has pointed out something I now realize is not clear about the story time setting. Nigel takes place in our current time, albeit in an alternate world. Thornhaven and its residence are somewhat backward in attitudes and have not embraced modernity very well. In fact this is one of the conflicts that will be part of the greater story. So yes there is manga. Book two will introduce more current time elements.

And what can I say I was a big fan of the Jonah Hex comic in particular when Joe Lansdale wrote and Tim Truman drew a limited series. In fact I realize that my style is starting to owe some elements to Tim Truman. "Jack" (the fellow holding the torch in the last panel) is an amalgamation of a number of "heavy" archetypes but his look is an homage to the movie "Van Helsing" and the character Soloman Kane. Now armed with that information you perhaps now know what he is about as if there was ever any doubt.

Mo, glad to have you back you might feel different about this particular Albert once you get to know him better. I will try not to be awol for too long. ;)

Dave, thanks man, I look back at those first pages and while I was proud of the work I realized I needed to push to get to what I wanted. Of course, I am far from where I want to be but the important thing is the journey.

KFP and Cat,

You guys are hitting very close to the mark. :)

I still live but life has been very hectic. Along with work and family I started back into graduate school this fall and it has taken up much of what time I do have to spare. And as an added bonus I have started seeing freelance work and caricature work pick up again. The extra cash has been nice, but leaves little time for drawing Nigel. Fear not I have been working on the story and have started laying out pages again as a break from everything else. I hope to get back to posting regularly again.
