And I am back from the dead, again. Long story short, Texas did not work out for me. Along with a long bad bout of depression, ending up divorced, alone, and far from all I knew and long time friends, I was miserable. I managed to land a job back in my home state of North Carolina and that is where I am now. I am starting my life over and getting back to writing and drawing and doing creative things in general. It is what is going to keep me sane. I've been working on a lot of short stories and have a novel in progress. But getting back to doing the story of Lucy, Nigel and Malfelix is something I cannot let go. Here is hoping that I will be producing much more on a regular basis. I have another page finished which will run in a couple of days and working on a third at the moment that just needs to be inked and scanned. Plus I have now plotted out all of this first book and working on the second book and thumb nails. One could say I have been productive of late. It is good to be back in more ways than one.

Chris, Nigel lives in our world, sort of. I've been putting a lot of thought into where exactly and originally the story is set in England...somewhere. Nigel started out as what I thought was going to be a gag/comedic comic strip but I suffered from the Cerebus syndrome and now I realize there is a rich deep story here that I want to tell. Or maybe it is not so rich and deep but I think there is a lot here to explore. I had a lot of time alone in Texas to think about Nigel and Lucy as well as much more. Now that I have my mental feet planted again I want to finally bring those thoughts and ideas to the page and see what happens. On a similar note there is the old axiom of write what you know. I've never been outside the continental United States. Which makes it difficult to write characters who are supposed to be European. Which is why there is going to be a big change coming with Nigel, Lucy and Malfelix as to where they live and the kind of people and others they interact with. While it has been fun to do a somewhat Gothic horror homage, that is not were Nigel and company belong. I don't want to spoil anything now so please bear with me and just keep a look out for how the story develops. Of course I welcome the instant feedback I get as a creator using the medium of web comics.

Wow. That is one hell of an experience that you have just been through sir. I pray that God loves and protects you through these painful times that you are going through. My best therapy is taking long walks out in the woods and enjoying nature, fresh air, and all of God's wild and beautiful animals (except when they growl at me from inside the bushes - true story). ha Ha
Great top have Nigel The Nosferatu back!!!

I think that is great, and I agree, you have to write about what you know.
However, I personally just do whatever I think has the maximum "fun factor" and then explain it logically later.
